Survey Conclusion

I was really excited to get my results for my surveys back.  After reviewing them, I came away with a lot of new knowledge.  I saw that guys, based on my surveys, didn’t seem to care as much as girls did about the abandonment of a friend.  I personally found this appalling.  It got me thinking about whether or not they were telling the truth, or putting up the same tough act that they have been putting on for so long now, that they don’t even realize it.  While I was researching the effects of parental abandonment on boys and girls, one resource said that without realizing it, guys who were abandoned tend to put on the tough guy act.  Sometimes they forget to consider what really matters to them because they are subconsciously trying to protect themselves from more hurt.
Girls on the other hand proved to be more caring about the topic of parental abandonment.  In the same resource mentioned previously, the resource said that while some girls do try out the same macho act as guys, girls who were abandoned by a parent, especially a mother, are more likely to be more sensitive to some situations more than others.  These girls who were abandoned by a mother feel like they are unable to connect with females as well as they can with males.  Since they had grown up with their fathers, they usually are more prone to be “one of the guys” rather than “one of the girls”.  Girls who have grown up with their fathers also tend to feel as if they don’t really have someone they can rely on to be there for them through all of their “feminine” problems such as break-ups, trouble with friends, etc….  One more thing I learned was that girls also end up seeing the solution of their problems the way their father might.  A lot of times this leads the girl to be more prone to fighting to solve things.
Doing the research on this topic was great.  It really felt close to home, and I honestly enjoyed surveying different people to discover what other people thought about this major issue.  Throughout this project I will continue to research and further my knowledge of this issue.  I didn’t think that I would really feel comfortable doing this topic for my project, but it’s been a really eye-opening experience and I love it.
